What is NIS2?

Network and Information Security (NIS2) is a new directive of the European Union. It aims to make institutions and companies more resilient to cyber attacks. In the Czech Republic, it will be reflected in legislation in the form of a new law on cyber security. It will significantly expand the number of regulated entities and the scope of their obligations.

Since when is NIS2 valid?

The transposition timeline under NIS2 requires the new law to take effect on 18 October 2024. Depending on the progress of the legislative process, we expect the law to take effect at the end of 2024. Verify whether NIS2 applies to you.

Why bother with it?

You get a system to increase your company's resilience against cyber attacks. The NIS2 Directive will place increased demands on regulated entities, in particular their suppliers, in addition to those subject to regulation. It also introduces direct responsibility for statutory representatives to ensure compliance with the Directive. In addition, breaches can result in heavy fines for companies and organisations.

Who is it affecting?

NIS2 will apply to entities in a total of 18 sectors that provide one of more than 60 listed services. The new NIS2 Directive will affect more than 6,000 companies and organisations in the Czech Republic. The original NIS framework covered around 450 entities.

Since when does it apply?

The implementation of NIS2 into the Czech legislation in the form of a new law on cyber security will take place by 18 October 2024. The binding implementation of the new legislative framework will come into effect in 2025.

What to do?

First, find out if your company or organisation comes under NIS2. Compare the current state of the company with the desired state, i.e. the requirements of the new NIS2 directive.
